The Japan National Tourism Organisation briefed us to create a social media campaign that engaged, educated and inspired users to travel to Japan during Spring. Additionally the campaign needed to increase JNTO's social following and database growth.
We created a tamagotchi style Facebook mini game around the biggest attraction Japan has to offer in Spring, the cherry blossom. Players had to grow their tree and collect 50 lanterns from its leaves to be in the running to win a trip to Japan. We built an entire world around the tree, including mythical animals, backdrops and achievements that could be unlocked; all of which educated the players about Japan and inspired them to travel there.
